Do not rush to get it running

Years of storage can affect fuel, brakes, cooling, hydraulics, tires, seals and electrical systems. Making the engine fire is not the same as safely recommissioning the vehicle.

Before authorizing repairs, find out whether the car is desirable in its current condition. A complete, original long-stored car may have more collector appeal than an owner expects.

What helps us evaluate a stored car

Start with honest photos and basic information. Do not throw away old parts, manuals, plates, receipts or boxes until you know whether they belong with the car.

  • Year, make, model and VIN or chassis number
  • How long the vehicle has been stored
  • When it last ran or drove
  • Exterior, interior and engine-compartment photos
  • Visible rust, damage or missing parts
  • Title or registration status
  • Original parts, books, tools and service records

Storage condition matters

A dry California garage, outdoor storage, coastal exposure and rural barn storage create very different risks. Rust, rodents, moisture, sun damage and deteriorated rubber all affect recommissioning cost and market value.

We evaluate the whole vehicle rather than assuming that 'not running' means 'not valuable.'

Selling as-is can make sense

If the cost to recommission the car will not be recovered in the sale price, selling it as it sits may provide a better net result. We can evaluate long-stored collector cars, coordinate pickup and take on the mechanical risk after purchase.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Will you buy a classic car that has been sitting for decades?

Yes. Long-term storage does not prevent a purchase. Rarity, completeness, originality, specification and condition all matter.

Should I put in a battery and fresh gas before contacting you?

Usually contact us first. A quick startup can create avoidable risk on a vehicle that has been dormant for years.

Do I need to clean the garage or car first?

No. Photos of the car as found, nearby parts and records can actually provide useful information.
